At the Eastern edge of the Russian Federation lies the Chukotka Peninsula, one of the least populated and most hostile environments in the world. The most populous city in the region is Andayr, with a population of about 11 000. 60 years ago when people started settling in the region they were drastically outnumbered by polar bears. Rather than avoid the bears, many people started feeding them condensed milk., which apparently polar bears love. There are a few more pictures after the jump. I’m just amazed at how docile the bears all look. They must really love that milk.
